Police in Bungoma County are investigating a double death incident involving murder and mob justice in Kimilili Sub-County.

According to police, the incident occurred in Namisi Village, Khamulati location, where two men died following a violent altercation Sunday morning.

Police who visited the scene found the lifeless bodies of Wycliffe Masika, 32, and Oscar Masai Murioki, 46.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the two neighbours had a disagreement over unknown issues, which escalated into violence.

During the confrontation, Murioki allegedly attacked Masika using a sharp object suspected to be a panga or axe, inflicting deep cuts to the head, cheek and neck.

Masika’s body was found near his homestead at around 6:00am.

Following the incident, irate members of the public reportedly launched a manhunt for the suspect, eventually tracing him to his hideout.

He was then subjected to mob justice and fatally injured.

Police said the suspect sustained severe injuries to the head, chest and leg and died at the scene.

Both scenes were processed and documented by crime scene investigators, and the bodies were moved to the Kimilili Sub-County mortuary awaiting postmortem examinations.

The suspected murder weapon has not yet been recovered.

Police have condemned the incident and warned against mob justice, urging residents to report suspects to authorities and allow the law to take its course. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the killings are ongoing.

Murder and mob lynching incidents have been on the rise amid efforts to address the menace.

And police in Busia County have launched investigations into a murder incident after the body of an unidentified man was discovered in Malaba, Teso North Sub-County.

Police said the incident was reported on Sunday after members of the public spotted the body lying along a murram road in Akiriamasi sub-location.

Police officers who visited the scene, located behind Westside Hospital, found the body of an unknown African male adult lying on his back in a pool of blood.

Preliminary observations indicated that the deceased had sustained a severe head injury. A piece of wood, believed to have been used in the attack, was recovered next to the body, suggesting the victim may have been assaulted at the scene.

The area was processed by investigators before the body was moved to the Teso North Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting identification and a postmortem examination.

Police have since launched a manhunt for those responsible and are appealing to members of the public with any information that could assist in identifying the deceased or tracking down the suspects to come forward.
