Wajir Governor Mohamed Abdi’s case at the Supreme Court has suffered a blow after the apex court threw out two affidavits filed by Kampala International University, affirming that  was a graduate of the institution.

The affidavits were thrown out on the grounds that they were filed out of time.

The affidavits stated that Mr Abdi was a student at the university between 2009 and 2012, opposed to a statement issued last month, denying that Abdi studied in the university.

The affidavits were sworn by the founding vice chancellor Badru Katerega and academic Registrar Hamza Ssegawa.

In the the statement dated October 22, Uganda’s Ministry of Internal Affairs said Mr Abdi never traveled to the country at the time he claims to have been studying.

“We have established no record of travel into and out of Uganda during the said period … as per the details provided in the letter,” said the authorities.

Mr Abdi’s election was nullified because of irregularities and because he does not possess a degree, a requirement for a governor’s position.

His appeal was dismissed by the Court of Appeal but he moved to the Supreme Court and obtained orders stopping IEBC from declaring the seat vacant pending his appeal.
