Wendel Luís Bezerra da Silva, known professionally as Wendel Bezerra, is a renowned Brazilian actor, voice actor, dubbing director, announcer, and YouTuber.

Born on June 18, 1974, in São Paulo, Brazil, he has been active in the entertainment industry since the age of eight.

He is widely recognized as one of Brazil’s most iconic voice actors, particularly for voicing beloved characters that have marked generations of audiences.

In addition to his performance work, he is the founder and CEO of UniDub, a prominent dubbing studio and training school in São Paulo that he established with his brother.

Siblings

Wendel comes from a large family with four brothers and one sister.

Two of his siblings, Ulisses Bezerra and Úrsula Bezerra, are also established voice actors actively working in the industry.

According to Wendel, two other brothers, Washington and Wellington, practiced voice acting in the past.

The Bezerra family has a strong collective presence in Brazilian dubbing, with Wendel’s children, Enzo, Melissa, and Eric, also having participated in voice work, continuing the family tradition across generations.

Career

Bezerra began his career as a child in the early 1980s, taking on minor roles in dubs of Mexican telenovelas and series such as Small Wonder.

He rose to national prominence as the Brazilian voice of SpongeBob SquarePants in the long-running animated series, a role he has performed since the show’s debut in Brazil.

He is equally famous for voicing Son Goku across multiple Dragon Ball series and films, as well as Vinsmoke Sanji in One Piece.

His extensive dubbing portfolio includes numerous animated characters such as Jackie Chan in The Adventures of Jackie Chan, Donatello in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Gideon in Gravity Falls, and Samwise Gamgee in The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Among live-action actors, he has been the regular Brazilian voice for talents including Edward Norton, Robert Pattinson (including in the Twilight saga and The Batman), Leonardo DiCaprio, Brendan Fraser, and Ryan Phillippe.

He has also dubbed real-life personalities like Buddy Valastro on Cake Boss.

Beyond voice acting, Wendel has worked as a dubbing director on major projects, founded and leads the UniDub studio, and maintains an active presence as a YouTuber where he shares insights into dubbing, personal stories, and entertainment content.

He has appeared in live-action roles, performed as one of the Ronald McDonald actors in commercials and shows, and engages in public speaking and events.

Accolades

Bezerra won the Prêmio Yamato (often called the “Oscar of Dubbing”) in 2009 for Best Protagonist Voice Actor for his work as SpongeBob SquarePants.

He previously received nominations in the same category in 2005 for SpongeBob and in 2004 for Best Dubbing Direction on Saint Seiya.

His enduring popularity stems from voicing culturally impactful characters like Goku and SpongeBob, which have made him a beloved figure among anime and animation fans in Brazil.
