National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has dismissed social media rumours claiming he was dead, saying he is alive, well and fully on duty.

In a video shared online, Wetang’ula said: “Still alive, still kicking, still on duty. Handling parliamentary duties in Naivasha.”

The false reports had spread widely on social media, causing concern among Kenyans.

Before returning to Kenya, the Speaker had been attending the 28th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) in New Delhi, India.

Now back in the country, Wetang’ula said he is continuing with his official work. In Naivasha, he chaired the first meeting of the 10-member Board of Trustees of the Members’ Post-Service Medical Scheme as Chairperson of the Parliamentary Service Commission.

He said the meeting marked an important step in protecting the welfare of current and former Members of Parliament, especially after they leave office.

“In my keynote address, I noted that many Members face harsh realities after leaving Parliament, which shows the urgent need to restore and protect their dignity through structured post-service support,” Wetang’ula said.

The meeting also served as an induction for the board, with experts briefing the trustees on policies, regulations, and the financial and governance systems needed to manage the medical scheme effectively and sustainably.
