    Early Life

Cara Jocelyn Delevingne was born on August 12, 1992, in Hammersmith, London.

She grew up in the upscale neighborhood of Belgravia, London. Her father, Charles Hamar Delevingne, worked in property development, while her mother, Pandora Delevingne, came from a prominent British family.

Delevingne grew up with two older sisters, Chloe Delevingne and Poppy Delevingne, as well as a paternal half-brother named Alex Jaffe.

She attended Francis Holland School before later enrolling at Bedales School.

However, Delevingne left school at age 17 to pursue a modeling career, following in the footsteps of her sister Poppy.

    Modeling Career

Delevingne signed with the modeling agency Storm Management in 2009. Her early years in the industry were challenging. She reportedly spent nearly a year attending casting calls before landing her first paid modeling job.

Her breakthrough came when Christopher Bailey, then the creative director of Burberry, noticed her while she was working part-time at a fashion website office. Bailey cast her in Burberry’s Spring/Summer 2011 campaign, which helped launch her international career.

The 2012 fashion season marked a turning point. During New York Fashion Week, Delevingne walked for several major designers including:

    • Jason Wu
    • Rag & Bone
    • Donna Karan
    • Tory Burch
    • Oscar de la Renta

She also participated in London, Milan, and Paris Fashion Weeks, walking for major brands such as:

    • Fendi
    • Moschino
    • Dolce & Gabbana
    • Stella McCartney
    • Kenzo
    • Chanel

Over the course of that year’s Fashion Month, she walked in more than 20 runway shows, earning widespread recognition.

Publications such as Vogue and The Daily Telegraph praised her as one of the most exciting new faces in fashion. Legendary designer Karl Lagerfeld also publicly praised her after a Chanel runway show in Paris.

By September 2012, Delevingne had become one of the most sought-after models in the world, walking in more than 50 runway shows during the international fashion season.

    Fashion Campaigns

Cara Delevingne quickly became a favorite among major luxury brands and magazines.

She has appeared on the covers of leading fashion publications including:

    • British GQ

She has also starred in advertising campaigns for many global brands, including:

    • Dior Beauty
    • Rimmel London
    • Yves Saint Laurent
    • Puma
    • DKNY
    • Alexander Wang
    • Mango

Although she remained active in modeling, Delevingne began reducing her runway appearances after 2015 to focus more on acting and other creative projects.

    Acting Career

Cara Delevingne made her acting debut in 2012 in the film adaptation of Anna Karenina, where she played Princess Sorokina.

Her television debut came in 2014 on the British anthology series Playhouse Presents.

She later landed leading roles in several films, including:

    • Paper Towns – where she played the lead character Margo Roth Spiegelman
    • Pan
    • Suicide Squad – portraying the villain Enchantress
    • Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets alongside Rihanna and Dane DeHaan
    • Tulip Fever
    • London Fields

She also starred in the fantasy television series Carnival Row beginning in 2019.

    Other Projects

Beyond modeling and acting, Cara Delevingne has explored several creative fields.

She is also a musician and previously recorded two albums under music manager Simon Fuller. However, she declined a record deal because it required her to change her name.

She has collaborated musically with artists including Pharrell Williams and Will Heard.

Delevingne also recorded the song “I Feel Everything” for the soundtrack of the film Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.

In fashion design, she created a capsule collection for DKNY and designed several handbag collections for Mulberry.

She is also a published author, having co-written the novel Mirror, Mirror with Rowan Coleman.

    Personal Life

Cara Delevingne has often spoken openly about her identity and relationships. She previously identified as bisexual and has since described herself as pansexual.

She dated musician St. Vincent from 2014 to 2016, and later had a relationship with actress and model Ashley Benson from 2019 to 2020.
