    Early Life

Randy Jackson was born Randall Darius Jackson on June 23, 1956, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. His mother worked as a homemaker, while his father was a plant foreman.

After finishing high school, Jackson attended Southern University, where he studied music. He graduated in 1976 with a bachelor’s degree in music, laying the foundation for his future career in the music industry.

    Music Career

Jackson began his professional career in the 1980s as a session bass guitarist, working with various artists and bands. Early in his career, he performed with groups like Taxxi and collaborated with musicians including Jean-Luc Ponty and Carlos Santana.

From 1986 to 1987, he played bass for the rock band Journey and participated in the recording of their album Raised on Radio. Later, he worked internationally with Italian singer Zucchero and jazz drummer Billy Cobham.

Over the years, Jackson also contributed to projects by major artists such as Aretha Franklin, Kenny G, Tracy Chapman, and Bruce Springsteen.

    Producer and Television Career

In addition to performing, Jackson built a successful career as a music producer. He has worked with major artists including Mariah Carey and produced music for several contestants from American Idol, such as Kimberley Locke.

In 2008, he released the album Randy Jackson’s Music Club, Vol. 1, which he fully produced.

Jackson became a household name when he joined the judging panel of American Idol in 2002. Over time, he became the only original judge remaining on the show, staying until 2014 before stepping away to focus on other ventures.

He also served as executive producer of the dance competition series America’s Best Dance Crew, which premiered in 2008.

    Radio and Other Work

Outside of television, Jackson has hosted the radio program Randy Jackson’s Hit List, a Top 40 countdown show that highlights popular music hits. His work across music, television, and radio has helped establish him as a respected figure in the entertainment industry.

    American Idol Salary

When Jackson first joined American Idol, he reportedly earned $10 million per season as a judge. As the show’s popularity grew, his earnings increased significantly. However, reports suggested he still earned around $30 million less per year than fellow judge Simon Cowell, who was the highest-paid personality on the show.

    Personal Life

Jackson was first married to Elizabeth Jackson, and the couple had one child before divorcing. In 1995, he married Erika Riker, and they had two children together. The couple later filed for divorce in 2014.

    Real Estate

In 2014, Jackson sold a home in Los Angeles, located in the Tarzana neighborhood, for about $1.9 million. The Spanish-style property featured 5,878 square feet of living space, along with amenities such as a pool, spa, and guesthouse.

Jackson had originally purchased the property in 2005 for $2.725 million, ultimately selling it at a loss.
