    Early Life

    Sage Steele was born on November 28, 1972, in the Panama Canal Zone. She is the daughter of Mona Steele and Gary Steele, who served in the United States Army and had a background in athletics.

    Because of her father’s military career, Steele spent part of her childhood living overseas in countries such as Greece and Belgium.

    After returning to the United States, she attended Thomas B. Doherty High School before later transferring to Carmel High School, where she graduated in 1990.

    Steele later enrolled at Indiana University Bloomington, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in sports communication in 1995.

    Early Broadcasting Career

    Steele began her professional broadcasting career at WSBT-TV, where she worked as both a producer and reporter from 1995 to 1997.

    She later joined WISH-TV, covering major teams such as the Indianapolis Colts and the Indiana Pacers, along with local college and high school sports.

    From 1998 to 2001, Steele worked at WFTS-TV and contributed to Fox Sports Florida. During this time, she covered teams such as the Orlando Magic and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

    She later joined Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic, where she anchored the nightly sports program SportsNite from 2001 to 2007.

    Career at ESPN

    In 2007, Steele joined ESPN, marking a major step in her career.

    She became a co-anchor of SportsCenter, initially hosting the morning edition alongside Hannah Storm.

    Sage Steele Net Worth

    In 2013, Steele became the host of NBA Countdown, the network’s pregame show for NBA coverage on ESPN and ABC. She remained with the program until 2017 before returning to SportsCenter.

    In early 2021, she began co-anchoring the noon edition of SportsCenter alongside Matt Barrie.

    Later that year, ESPN suspended Steele following comments she made during an appearance on a podcast hosted by Jay Cutler. She later filed a lawsuit against ESPN in 2022, and the case was settled in 2023.

    Other Media Appearances

    Outside traditional sports broadcasting, Steele has appeared in several other media roles.

    In 2013, she drove the pace car for the Brickyard 400.

    She also hosted the Scripps National Spelling Bee from 2010 to 2013.

    In addition, Steele co-hosted Miss America television coverage on ABC alongside Chris Harrison in 2017 and 2018.

    She has also appeared as a guest host on The View.

    In 2024, Steele became the first podcast host on Club Random Studios, the media company launched by Bill Maher.

    Personal Life

    Sage Steele married Jonathan Bailey in 1999. The couple had three children together before divorcing in 2019.

    She previously lived in a large home in Avon, Connecticut, which she listed for sale for around $1.6 million in 2021 after completing several renovations.
