Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi has left for Paris, France, for an official visit aimed at strengthening Kenya’s relations with the French government ahead of the Africa-France Summit to be held in Nairobi later this year.
In Paris, Mudavadi will meet French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot for bilateral talks on how to make the upcoming summit a success. The two leaders are expected to discuss cooperation in trade, climate change, security, education and technology, as well as Kenya’s role as a regional diplomatic and environmental leader.
According to a statement from Mudavadi’s office, the Africa-France Summit will showcase Kenya’s growing influence in Africa and its strong partnership with France. “The summit signals Kenya’s status as a diplomatic and environmental leader in Africa and is the result of efforts led by President William Ruto to position the country as the continent’s hub,” the statement said.
During the visit, Mudavadi will sign an agreement between Kenya and the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), France’s development agency. He will also meet French business leaders and companies, including Medef, Airbus, Thales, In Groupe, Winwin Afrique and CFAO, to explore investment opportunities in Kenya.
“As is tradition, the Prime Cabinet Secretary will meet staff at the Kenyan Embassy in Paris and Kenyans working at UNESCO,” the statement added.
Kenya and France enjoy strong bilateral ties that have grown from traditional aid support to partnerships based on mutual interests in trade, education, peace and security, health, climate action and innovation.
Kenya is set to make history in May when it becomes the first non-Francophone African country to host the Africa-France Summit, breaking the long-standing tradition of holding the meeting only in France or French-speaking African nations since it began in 1973.
