Why Prince Harry gifted Meghan penguins on their 8th Wedding Anniversary

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle marked eight years of marriage with a heartfelt and deeply personal celebration that quickly captured attention online.
The couple’s anniversary celebrations took center stage after Meghan revealed a sentimental gift from Harry on her Instagram Story — a sculpture of two penguins cuddling together. The touching present came with a handwritten card that read, “my one and only.”
The Duchess of Sussex later shared the sweet meaning behind the symbolic gift while speaking to the couple’s daughter, Princess Lilibet.
According to Meghan, the penguins referenced the couple’s 2017 engagement party, where guests wore animal-themed onesies. She revealed that she and Harry attended the celebration dressed as penguins.
In another clip, Meghan placed the penguin sculpture beside a Polaroid photo of the pair wearing matching penguin outfits. The nostalgic image showed the couple posing for a mirror selfie, with Harry towering over Meghan in the playful throwback snap.
The romantic gesture also carried a symbolic meaning. Some penguin species are famously known for bonding with one partner for life, making the gift an emotional tribute to their relationship.
Earlier in the day, Meghan celebrated the milestone anniversary with a series of never-before-seen wedding photos shared on Instagram. The images featured intimate moments from the couple’s 2018 royal wedding, including their first dance, affectionate embraces and candid interactions with guests.
One photo captured Harry leaning in to kiss Meghan after delivering a toast during the reception, while others showed the pair smiling and embracing moments after exchanging vows.
Harry and Meghan tied the knot on May 19, 2018, at St. George’s Chapel in a globally watched ceremony attended by royals, celebrities and close friends.
Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have continued to share select glimpses of their family life, often highlighting personal milestones and moments with their children.
