    Career Earnings

During his NFL career, Willis McGahee earned approximately $35 million in salary.

However, his professional journey almost ended before it began. While playing for Miami in the 2003 Fiesta Bowl, McGahee suffered a devastating knee injury in the fourth quarter that involved tears to his ACL, PCL, and MCL. The injury required multiple surgeries and raised serious doubts about whether he would ever play football again.

Before the game, McGahee had taken out a $2.5 million insurance policy. He could have collected the payout, but doing so would have made him ineligible for the NFL Draft. He decided to take the risk and skip the insurance claim. The gamble paid off when the Buffalo Bills selected him in the 2003 NFL Draft, allowing him to build a successful professional career.

    Early Life

Willis Andrew McGahee III was born on October 21, 1981, in Miami. During his teenage years, he attended Miami Springs High School and later Miami Central High School, where he developed into one of the top football prospects in the region.

    College Football Career

McGahee attended the University of Miami, playing for the Hurricanes from 2000 to 2002.

    • In 2001, he helped the team win the BCS National Championship.
    • His best season came in 2002, when he led Miami to an undefeated regular season and broke multiple school records, including 2,108 all-purpose yards.

For his outstanding performance that season, McGahee was named Big East Offensive Player of the Year and a consensus All-American. His college career ended abruptly with the severe knee injury in the 2003 championship game.

    Buffalo Bills

McGahee was selected 23rd overall in the first round of the 2003 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. Because he was still recovering from his knee injury, he missed the entire 2003 season.

He made his NFL debut in 2004 and quickly proved his resilience. That season he recorded:

    • 1,128 rushing yards
    • 13 rushing touchdowns
    • 284 carries

His remarkable comeback earned him the PFWA Comeback Player of the Year Award. McGahee followed with another strong season in 2005, rushing for 1,247 yards.

    Denver Broncos

In 2011, McGahee signed a four-year contract with the Denver Broncos. He had a strong first season, rushing for 1,199 yards and earning his second Pro Bowl selection. Injuries affected his performance in 2012, and he was eventually released by the team in 2013.

    Cleveland Browns

McGahee finished his NFL career with the Cleveland Browns in 2013, recording 377 rushing yards and two touchdowns in 12 games before retiring from professional football.

    Personal Life

McGahee has often attracted media attention for his personal life. Reports have indicated that by the age of 32, he had fathered 10 children with nine different women.
