    Woman killed by lightning while leaving house during rainstorm in Bungoma

    A 35-year-old woman was killed after she was struck by lightning while leaving her house during a rainstorm in Cheptais Sub-County, Bungoma County.

    According to police, the incident occurred at about 5.47 p.m. on Tuesday at Chepcheiywa Village in Sasur Sub-location.

    The deceased was identified as Everlyne Chebet.

    Police said Chebet was inside the house with her family when she attempted to walk to the kitchen as it rained. As she approached the door, she was struck by lightning and collapsed.

    Family members and neighbours rushed to her aid after raising an alarm, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

    Officers who visited the scene found that the body had already been moved by relatives. An examination revealed a burn mark on the left side of her body below the breast, consistent with a lightning strike.

    The body was transferred to Delight Mortuary in Kimilili, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.

    Police have documented the incident, which is being treated as a natural occurrence.

    And a man is in critical condition after he was electrocuted while allegedly attempting to vandalize a live Kenya Power electricity cable at the Makongeni Affordable Housing Estate in Nairobi.

    According to police, the incident occurred at about 6.50 p.m. on Tuesday within the estate in Makadara Sub-County.

    Police said security personnel at the housing project alerted officers after the man was electrocuted.

    Officers from Makongeni Police Station responded to the scene and established that the victim, had allegedly attempted to cut or steal a live Kenya Power electricity wire when he was electrocuted.

    He was rescued and rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition and is undergoing treatment.

    Scenes of Crime officers from Makadara visited and processed the scene as investigations into the incident continue.
