A 35-year-old woman was killed in a fire incident in Riruta, Nairobi County.

The incident happened when a fire razed down at least seven structures in the area, police said of the February 2 tragedy.

The remains of Naomi Mwangi were found in her house long after the fire had been contained, police said.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

Meanwhile, police are investigating at least five murder cases that were reported on Monday alone.

In Emurua Dikirr, Narok County, a 77-year-old woman was found dead in her house with injuries in the head, hands and neck.

Police suspect the woman was assaulted before being murdered in her house.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy. Police said they had not made any arrest over the February 1 incident.

In Kiirua, Meru County, the body of a 35-year-old woman was found at a market after suspected murder.

The body of Emily Gacheri was found in her bed long after she had been murdered, police said.

Police said the body had a deep cut on the left side of the chest. Police said a suspect in the murder escaped the scene. He is believed to be her brother-in-law.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

In Ndugamano, Nyeri County, one Paul Kondu, 64 was killed after an assault. The assailants were yet to be arrested by February 3, police said as they announced they were pursuing the incident.

Murder cases have been on the rise in the country amid efforts to solve them. The police say up to eight cases are reported daily in a worrying trend.

Most of the cases remain unsolved so far, police said adding they were pursuing the perpetrators and motives.

Some of them are linked to love triangles and land disputes while others are caused by deals gone bad.
