Yashasvi Bhupendra Kumar Jaiswal is an Indian international cricketer known for his aggressive left-handed opening batting.
Born on 28 December 2001 in Suriyawan, a small town in Bhadohi district of Uttar Pradesh, he rose from extremely modest circumstances to become one of India’s most promising young batters.
His father, Bhupendra Kumar Jaiswal, ran a small hardware shop, while his mother, Kanchan Jaiswal, is a homemaker.
At the age of ten, Yashasvi moved to Mumbai to pursue cricket seriously. He initially stayed in a dairy shop in exchange for work before living in a tent with groundsmen at Azad Maidan, where he sometimes sold panipuri to survive.
Spotted by coach Jwala Singh, who later became his mentor and legal guardian, Jaiswal steadily climbed the ranks through school and age-group cricket.
Siblings
Yashasvi is the youngest of four children and has one elder brother and two elder sisters.
His brother, Tejasvi Jaiswal, shared the same early passion for cricket.
In 2012 the two brothers moved together from Uttar Pradesh to Mumbai to chase their dreams, living in a groundsman’s tent at Azad Maidan.
Because of the family’s limited financial resources, only one could continue full-time.
Tejasvi, then around seventeen, chose to step aside.
He moved to Delhi, worked as a salesman in a decorative lights shop, sent pocket money to support Yashasvi, and helped arrange the marriages of their two sisters.
After years of putting family first, Tejasvi returned to competitive cricket and has since played first-class cricket for Tripura in the Ranji Trophy and other domestic tournaments, scoring notable half-centuries.

Career
Jaiswal’s career began in school cricket in Mumbai, where he first attracted attention with a remarkable all-round performance of 319 not out and 13 wickets in a Giles Shield match.
He progressed through Mumbai’s age-group teams and represented India at Under-19 level.
In the 2019–20 Vijay Hazare Trophy he scored 203 off 154 balls against Jharkhand, becoming the youngest player in List A history to register a double century at 17 years and 292 days.
He made his first-class debut for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy in January 2019.
Bought by Rajasthan Royals ahead of the 2020 IPL, he gradually established himself as a dynamic opener, notably scoring 625 runs in the 2023 season, including the fastest IPL half-century (off 13 balls) and his maiden IPL century.
International recognition followed.
He made his Test debut against West Indies in July 2023 and scored 171 in his first innings.
In the 2024 home series against England he produced consecutive double centuries of 209 and 214 not out, becoming only the third Indian after Vinod Kambli and Virat Kohli to achieve the feat.
He has also scored a century on his first Test tour of Australia.
Jaiswal debuted in T20Is in 2023 and ODIs in 2025, later adding centuries in both formats.
He was part of India’s squad that won the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Across formats he has established himself as a fearless, high-scoring opener capable of dominating bowling attacks while showing the temperament required for long innings in Test cricket.
Accolades
Jaiswal was named Player of the Tournament at the 2020 ICC Under-19 World Cup after finishing as the leading run-scorer.
In the IPL he won the Emerging Player of the Season award in 2023.
The BCCI recognised him with the Best International Debut (Men) award, and the ICC named him Men’s Player of the Month for February 2024 following his outstanding performances against England.
He holds several records, including being the youngest batter to score a List A double century, equalling the world record for most sixes in a Test innings (12), becoming the first player to hit 20 sixes in a Test series, and ranking among the highest run-scorers in a single Test series for India at a young age.
