The on- screen reporter, Yvonne Okwara’s first job was as a waitress in the CBD. She worked at Walker’s restaurant at Re-insurance plaza for close to 15 hours per day and earned only 150 shillings per day.

I know, right? Restaurant opened at 9am. We had to be in at 7am. Closed at 8pm. Stayed till 10pm to clean up. All for 150bob. But I learned a lot. To respect wait staff and dealing with people! Smile goes a long way. Earned more in tips this way!

Robert Alai has also mentioned that his first job was hawking socks and Macarena toys in Nairobi. Today he is a Head of State Commendation(HSC) recipient and a renowned blogger.

He he he. My first job was hawking socks and those Macarena toys in Nairobi. Was paid a commission on the sales. Was really so hard. Then worked in medical sales for sometime in that Family Health building near T-Mall. Notek!!

This goes to show that it does not matter where you start from or where you are right now but where you want to be in future. As the great Niccolo Machiavelli said, the end justifies the means. Look at them now!
