    Early Life

Born Jeffrey Wielandt on January 14, 1967, in Bayonne, New Jersey, Zakk Wylde grew up in Jackson, where his passion for music began at an early age. He attended Jackson Memorial High School and spent countless hours perfecting his craft on the guitar. During his teenage years, Wylde played in a local band called Stone Henge, which laid the foundation for his future in heavy metal.

Rise to Fame with Ozzy Osbourne

Wylde’s big break came in the late 1980s when he replaced Jake E. Lee as the lead guitarist for legendary rock icon Ozzy Osbourne. His unique “bull’s-eye” Gibson Les Paul Custom guitar soon became his trademark.

His first album with Osbourne was “No Rest for the Wicked” (1988), which showcased his gritty yet melodic guitar work. This was followed by several other successful collaborations, including:

    • “Just Say Ozzy” (1990, live album)
    • “No More Tears” (1991)
    • “Live & Loud” (1993)
    • “Ozzmosis” (1995)

Though he briefly parted ways with Osbourne, Wylde returned in 2001 for “Down to Earth” and continued contributing to later albums such as “Black Rain” and “Patient Number 9.” His deep musical partnership with Osbourne became one of rock’s most celebrated collaborations.

Pride & Glory and the Birth of Black Label Society

During Osbourne’s 1991 tour, Wylde formed a side project called Pride & Glory with White Lion’s James LoMenzo and Greg D’Angelo. The band released one self-titled album in 1994 before disbanding, only to reunite briefly in 1998 for a one-off performance.

In 1998, Wylde launched what would become his most enduring project—Black Label Society. Acting as the band’s founder, lead guitarist, vocalist, songwriter, and producer, Wylde crafted a distinct sound blending Southern rock, doom metal, and blues influences.
Their debut album “Sonic Brew” (1998) set the tone, followed by fan favorites like “Stronger Than Death” (2000), “1919 Eternal” (2003), and “Catacombs of the Black Vatican” (2014). The band’s latest album, “Doom Crew Inc.” (2021), reaffirmed Wylde’s status as a powerhouse in modern metal.

    Solo Career and Other Projects

Wylde ventured into solo work with his album “Book of Shadows” (1996), showcasing a softer, acoustic side rarely seen in his metal performances. Its sequel, “Book of Shadows II” (2016), reflected his maturity as a songwriter.

He also leads Zakk Sabbath, a Black Sabbath cover band formed in 2014, alongside Rob Nicholson and Joey Castillo. In 2022, Wylde joined the reunited Pantera lineup as a fill-in guitarist for the late Dimebag Darrell, earning praise from fans and critics alike.

    Guest Appearances and Film Roles

Over the years, Wylde has collaborated with numerous artists and bands, contributing to albums such as “Bite Down Hard” (Britny Fox), “After the Reign” (Blackfoot), and “No Regrets” (Dope). He’s also featured in several live performances with bands like Guns N’ Roses and The Allman Brothers Band.

In film, Wylde appeared in the 2001 movie “Rock Star” as a guitarist for the fictional band Steel Dragon and later starred in the 2010 film “Bones.”

    Personal Life

Zakk Wylde married Barbaranne in 1992, and the couple has four children: Hayley, Jesse, Hendrix, and Sabbath. Known for his rugged persona and unwavering dedication to his craft, Wylde also leads a sober lifestyle and remains deeply connected to his faith and family.
