A standard seven pupil has committed suicide after his mother accused him of stealing rice.

The 13-year old is reported to have hung himself using a rope in his uncle’s house.

Speaking on the unfortunate incident that happened in Rurii Village, Mwea West in Kirinyaga County, Wamumu chief Godfrey Mithamo, confirmed the death, expressing disappointment over the happenings.

According to the boy’s aunt, Sylvia Wangui, the boy had been warned by the mother against following a certain group of boys in their area.

It is claimed that the boys had been accused of stealing villagers’ rice from their homes.

Ms Wangui also noted that the boy had been castigated by the mother over ‘poor performance.’

The unnamed child’s body has been moved to Kerugoya Referal Hospital mortuary pending postmortem.
