A multi-agency operation in Kawangware, Nairobi Region, has resulted in the destruction of 27,330 litres of suspected illegal brews as authorities intensified the crackdown on illicit alcohol.

Police said the operation also targeted businesses operating outside the law, leading to the arrest of two individuals who were found running wine and spirit shops without the required licences.

The suspects were taken into custody as authorities continued with investigations into the illegal alcohol trade in the area.

“One suspect, believed to be involved in the illicit brew trade, remains at large, with police pursuing leads to locate and apprehend him,” police said.

The operation is part of ongoing multi-agency efforts to combat the production, distribution and sale of illicit brews and unlicensed alcoholic drinks across the country.

Authorities have continued to target illegal alcohol outlets and the networks involved in the production and distribution of illicit brews, citing the need to enforce licensing requirements and curb the illegal alcohol trade.
