The report focused mainly on  areas considered to be ‘hot spots’ and the monitors were spread across 33 counties.

The report states that campaigns still took place in schools despite the directive by the Education CS that school grounds should be used for campaigns, this led to many children being involved in the campaign process.

The commission recorded instances of voter bribery in Makueni and Machakos. They also noticed how government officials campaigned for the Jubilee party by launching water projects.

It was also noted that some of the governors used taxpayers money to fund for their campaigns.

There was notable use of live bullets during protests that ended up in protester being injured and killed, the KNCHR however commended the police who they say exercised restraint in instances which could have easily gotten out of hand.
