Detectives in Busia have seized cannabis sativa valued at an estimated Sh23.43 million during an intelligence-led operation in Busia Township.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the operation was conducted after officers received a tip-off from members of the public regarding a suspected cannabis consignment stored in a residential house.
A joint team of law enforcement officers raided the house in the Mabale area of Busia Township, where they conducted a search and discovered 15 large gunny bags containing cannabis sativa.
The consignment weighed 780.95 kilogrammes and had an estimated street value of Sh23,428,500.
Three suspects identified as Patrick Wandera Khasali, Simon Ogola Khasali and Dorine Glara Adongo were arrested during the operation.
“The trio remains in police custody as detectives attached to the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU), Busia, take over investigations to unravel the source, intended destination and wider network behind the consignment,” the DCI said.
