    Walter Clayton Jr. is an American college basketball guard currently playing for the Florida Gators in the SEC.

    He gained recognition in high school for his skills in both basketball and football.

    After a standout career at Iona College, where he was named MAAC Player of the Year, he transferred to Florida.

    As of February 2025, Clayton is averaging 17.6 points per game for the Gators but is currently recovering from a sprained left ankle.

    Walter has two sisters named Asia Harris and Giselle Clayton.

    His parents are Cherie Quarg and Walter Clayton Sr., both of whom played basketball in high school, with his father also having played football.

    Career

    Clayton initially attended Lake Wales High School before transferring to Bartow High School, where he played a pivotal role in leading his team to win the Florida Class 6A state championship.

    He began his collegiate career at Iona College, where he quickly made an impact.

    As a freshman during the 2021-22 season, he averaged 7.3 points per game and was instrumental in Iona’s regular-season championship run.

    In his sophomore year (2022-23), Clayton elevated his performance significantly, averaging 16.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game.

    His outstanding play earned him the prestigious Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Player of the Year award.

    After two successful seasons at Iona, Clayton transferred to the University of Florida for the 2023-24 season.

    He continued to excel at Florida, averaging an impressive 17.6 points per game during the current season and establishing himself as a key player for the Gators in their SEC campaign.

    Throughout his college career, Clayton has accumulated notable statistics, including 1,404 total points across 100 appearances, along with approximately 403 rebounds and 325 assists.

    His shooting efficiency has been strong, with a field goal percentage of around 44.5% and a three-point shooting percentage of approximately 38.1%, highlighting his scoring ability.

    Accolades

    Clayton has received several notable accolades throughout his basketball career.

    As a standout player, he was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Player of the Year in 2023 while playing for Iona College.

    He also earned First-team All-MAAC honors that same year.

    In recognition of his performance at Florida, Clayton has been named to prestigious watch lists, including the John R. Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 and the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Midseason Watch List in 2025.

    His contributions have helped lead the Gators to an impressive start in the season, where he has topped team statistics in points per game and assists.

    Clayton’s individual achievements include setting a program record for consecutive games with a made three-pointer, reaching 44 games.

    He has also recorded multiple games scoring 25 or more points, showcasing his scoring ability and impact on the court.
