Thanasi Kokkinakis is an Australian professional tennis player, born on April 10, 1996, in Adelaide, South Australia.

He has made a name for himself in both singles and doubles competitions, achieving a career-high ATP singles ranking of No. 65 in November 2023.

Kokkinakis is particularly known for his success in doubles, where he reached a career-high ranking of No. 15 in November 2022 after winning the Australian Open doubles title with fellow Australian Nick Kyrgios.

Kokkinakis’s early career was marked by significant promise; he was ranked as high as No. 10 in the junior world rankings and won the junior doubles title at Wimbledon in 2013.

    Siblings

Thanasi has two siblings, Christina and Pan Kokkinakis. Christina is the eldest and plays a supportive role within the family.

While she is not involved in professional tennis, she often accompanies Thanasi and Pan to tournaments, providing emotional stability and a sense of home amidst the competitive nature of the sport.

Her presence has been an important source of encouragement for Thanasi throughout his career.

Pan Kokkinakis, Thanasi’s younger brother, was initially a promising tennis player on the junior circuit.

However, injuries unfortunately cut short his aspirations of pursuing a professional career in the sport.

Despite this setback, Pan remains one of Thanasi’s closest confidants and biggest supporters.

    Career

After a promising junior career, where he showcased his talent by winning the Wimbledon junior doubles title and reaching two Grand Slam singles finals, Kokkinakis transitioned into the professional circuit with high expectations.

His early career saw him breaking into the ATP top 100, signaling his arrival as a player to watch.

He also proudly represented Australia in the Davis Cup, a testament to his national pride and commitment to team tennis.

A significant moment early in his career was his third-round appearance at the 2015 French Open, demonstrating his ability to compete at the highest level in Grand Slam tournaments.

However, his ascent was soon hampered by a series of injuries, most notably a shoulder injury in late 2015, which required surgery and sidelined him for a considerable amount of time.

These injuries significantly disrupted his momentum and ranking.

Despite these challenges, Kokkinakis has demonstrated remarkable resilience.

A defining moment in his comeback was winning his first ATP Tour singles title at the Adelaide International in 2022, a victory celebrated by fans and fellow players alike.

Adding to this triumph, he partnered with Nick Kyrgios to win the Australian Open Men’s Doubles title that same year, marking a significant milestone in his career.

This win not only showcased his doubles prowess but also highlighted his strong bond and chemistry with Kyrgios.

Beyond these victories, Kokkinakis has also had notable individual match wins, such as his victory over Roger Federer at the 2018 Miami Open, proving his ability to compete with and defeat the top players in the world.

More recently, in 2023, he secured a significant win against Andrey Rublev, a top-10 player, demonstrating his continued competitiveness and potential for further success.

    Accolades

Kokkinakis has achieved several notable accolades throughout his tennis career, showcasing his talent and resilience in the sport.

He first gained recognition during his junior years, winning the 2013 Wimbledon Championships junior doubles title alongside Nick Kyrgios and reaching the final of the 2013 Australian Open Boys’ Singles.

As a professional, Kokkinakis won his first ATP Tour singles title at the 2022 Adelaide International, marking a significant milestone in his career after overcoming a series of injuries.

In doubles, he partnered with Kyrgios to win the 2022 Australian Open Men’s Doubles title, which remains his only Grand Slam title to date.

Kokkinakis has also represented Australia in the Davis Cup, contributing to the team’s success in various ties.

Throughout his career, he has reached a career-high ATP singles ranking of No. 65 as of November 2023 and a doubles ranking of No. 15 achieved in November 2022.

His performances have included reaching the third round of the French Open in 2015 and again in 2023 and 2024, further demonstrating his capabilities on the Grand Slam stage.
