    Robin Gayle Wright, born on April 8, 1966, in Dallas, Texas, is an acclaimed American actress and director known for her versatile performances across film and television.

    Raised in San Diego, California, by her mother, Gayle Gaston, a cosmetics executive, and her father, Freddie Wright, a pharmaceutical executive, Wright began her career as a model at age 14 before transitioning to acting.

    Her breakout roles in The Princess Bride (1987) and Forrest Gump (1994) established her as a prominent figure in Hollywood, while her portrayal of Claire Underwood in House of Cards (2013–2018) earned her widespread critical acclaim.

    Beyond acting, Wright is a director, humanitarian, and advocate for causes like gender equality and environmental conservation.

    Robin has one sibling, an older brother named Richard Gregg Wright, born on November 15, 1962.

    Richard, a photographer, is three years older than Robin. Their parents divorced when Robin was two or three years old, and their mother, Gayle, moved with Robin and Richard to San Diego, where they were primarily raised.

    Career

    Wright’s career began as a model at 14, traveling to Paris and Japan, but her passion for acting led her to audition for the NBC soap opera Santa Barbara.

    From 1984 to 1988, she played Kelly Capwell, earning three Daytime Emmy nominations.

    Her film breakthrough came with the role of Princess Buttercup in the cult classic The Princess Bride (1987), followed by a Golden Globe-nominated performance as Jenny Curran in Forrest Gump (1994).

    Wright received eight Primetime Emmy Award nominations, including five consecutive nominations (2013–2017) for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for House of Cards and one in 2019 for her final season.

    Her role in Forrest Gump earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress and a Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award nomination.

    She also received SAG nominations for She’s So Lovely (1997) and the TV miniseries Empire Falls (2005).

    For Moll Flanders (1996), Wright was nominated for a Satellite Award for Best Actress in a Drama, and she won a Satellite Award for Best Actress for House of Cards in 2013.

    Additionally, Wright’s early work on Santa Barbara garnered three Daytime Emmy Award nominations, and she received Critics’ Choice Television Award nominations (2014, 2016, 2017) for House of Cards.

    Her contributions to film and television, along with her directorial efforts, have solidified her reputation as a trailblazer, earning her a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2013.
