    Ruto Fires Former MP Alfred Khang’ati As Nzoia Sugar Board Chair In Major Shake-Up

    President William Ruto has revoked the appointment of former Kanduyi MP Alfred Khang’ati as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors at Nzoia Sugar Company Limited, marking a significant change in the leadership of the state-owned sugar sector.

    The announcement was made in a gazette notice dated May 12, 2025, with immediate effect.

    “In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 (1) (a) of the State Corporations Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, revokes the appointment of — Alfred Khang’ati as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Nzoia Sugar Company Limited, with effect from the 12th May, 2025,” the notice stated.

    Khang’ati previously served as the Member of Parliament for Kanduyi Constituency.

    In the same notice, President Ruto also fired John Nyambok as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Chemelil Sugar Company Limited.

    Meanwhile, he revoked the appointment of Jared Odhiambo Opiyo as Chairperson of South Nyanza Sugar Company Limited.

    Agriculture CS Mutahi Kagwe, in the same notice, revoked the appointment of Mary Akoth Were, Laura Abishag Matiko, Kipkoech Kirui, John Billy Momanyi, silas jakakimba and Douglas Kailanya as members of the Board of Directors of South Nyanza Sugar Company Limited.

    He also fired David Kiplagat Kitur, Enricah Apiyo Dulo, and  John Kipyegon Chesiror as Members of the Board of Directors of Chemelil Sugar Company Limited.

    Additionally, Kagwe revoked the appointment of Elizabeth Mudukiza Iminza, Patrice Chumba, Millicent Anyango Abudho, Benson Madebe Chahasi, Bonface Okhiya Otsiula, and Okwakau Ino Jonathan as Members of the Board of Directors of Nzoia Sugar Company Limited.

    He also revoked the appointment of Samwel Ogola Bonyo, Mary Simat, Henry Ntongai Mitu, David Kiplagat Kitur, Enricah Apiyo Dulo and John Kipyegon Chesiror as Members of the Board of Directors of Chemelil Sugar Company Limited.
