The Meru County Government has issued a stern warning to its employees against sharing confidential information with bloggers and on social media.

In a circular dated May 22, 2025, County Secretary and Head of Public Service Rufus Maranya said the administration had observed a trend where some staff were leaking sensitive operational details to unauthorized third parties.

“We wish to remind all members of staff that maintaining confidentiality is not only a matter of organizational integrity but also a critical component of your professional responsibility,” the circular stated.

To reinforce this, all county staff have now been directed to stop disclosing official information to outsiders, including bloggers and social media users.

The county has also ordered employees to sign an Oath of Secrecy as part of efforts to safeguard government information.

“Any breach will be treated with utmost seriousness,” warned Maranya. “Any individual found guilty of leaking or mishandling sensitive information will face appropriate disciplinary action.”

Despite the warning, the county secretary thanked employees for their continued cooperation and urged them to uphold the values of public service under the county’s development mantra, Building Meru Together.
