Michael Fassbender is a German-Irish actor widely acclaimed for his versatility and intensity, with a career spanning independent dramas, blockbuster franchises, and critically acclaimed biopics.
He was born on April 2, 1977, in Heidelberg, West Germany, to Josef Fassbender, a German chef, and Adele Fassbender, an Irishwoman from Larne, Northern Ireland.
When Michael was two years old, the family moved to Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland, where his parents later opened the West End House restaurant.
Fassbender grew up bilingual, spending his school years in Ireland while visiting family in Germany during summers.
His passion for acting emerged at 17 after a school production, leading him to London at 19 to train at the Drama Centre, although he left early to tour with the Oxford Stage Company in plays such as Chekhov’s Three Sisters.
Before establishing himself in acting, Fassbender supported himself through bartending and manual jobs.
Beyond acting, Fassbender competes professionally in motorsport, racing in the European Le Mans Series since 2017.

Michael has one sibling, his older sister Catherine Fassbender, who pursued a career in science rather than entertainment.

Fassbender’s career began with small roles on television before breaking through with bold, transformative performances.
His first notable screen appearance was in HBO’s Band of Brothers in 2001, followed by roles in shows such as Hex and Murphy’s Law.
