    Early Life

Dorrough, born Dorwin Demarcus Dorrough on October 28, 1986, in Dallas, Texas, grew up in a large family as the youngest of eleven children. His early years were filled with sports, particularly basketball, which he began playing at age seven. While excelling on the court, Dorrough also discovered his passion for music in high school. As captain of the basketball team at Lancaster High School, he often played his mixtapes during games and sold them to classmates, slowly building a loyal following.

After graduating, Dorrough enrolled at Prairie View A&M University. Though he did not complete his degree, his college years were pivotal, as he used the platform to reach a wider audience. By then, he had already developed a reputation as a regional star in Texas, blending his love for sports and music into his persona.

    Career

Dorrough’s professional music journey began in 2009 with the release of his debut single “Walk That Walk”, which peaked at #12 on the Billboard Hot Rap Tracks chart and #28 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. However, it was his next release, “Ice Cream Paint Job”, that propelled him to national fame. The single not only reached #27 on the Billboard Hot 100 but also achieved Platinum status and became an anthem in hip-hop culture.

In August 2009, Dorrough released his debut album “Dorrough Music” under E1 Music. The album performed strongly, peaking at #36 on the Billboard 200 and securing top positions on the Rap and R&B charts. That same year, he dropped a star-studded remix of “Ice Cream Paint Job” featuring Soulja Boy, Jermaine Dupri, Slim Thug, E-40, Jim Jones, and others.

Dorrough followed up with his sophomore album “Get Big” in 2010, which reached #68 on the Billboard 200 and produced singles like “Hood Bitch Fetish” with Yo Gotti and the title track “Get Big.” Both tracks secured chart positions and further boosted his reputation.

In the years that followed, Dorrough remained active in the mixtape circuit, releasing projects like “Number 23 (Gangsta Grillz)” with DJ Drama, “Silent Assassin”, “Highlights”, and the “Shut the City Down” series. His albums “Ride wit Me” (2017) and “The Jump Back” (2018) kept his music alive in the streaming era while maintaining his strong Southern fan base.

Aside from his own work, Dorrough has also collaborated with prominent artists, including Juvenile, Chamillionaire, and E-40, featuring on tracks that showcased his versatility.

    Dorrough Awards and Recognition

Dorrough’s breakout years earned him significant recognition. In 2009, he was nominated for three BET Hip Hop Awards, including Rookie of the Year, Video of the Year for “Ice Cream Paint Job”, and the Verizon People’s Champ Award. The following year, he won the Southern Entertainment Award for Independent Artist of the Year, highlighting his influence in the independent rap scene.

With an estimated net worth of $3 million, Dorrough has accumulated wealth primarily from music sales, performances, and collaborations. His ability to stay relevant through mixtapes and independent releases has kept his fan base intact, particularly in Texas and the Southern rap community.
