Sometimes you may forget your phone number, especially if you’re using a new SIM card or a secondary phone. Fortunately, MTN South Africa makes it simple to check your number without needing to call customer care or another person. Whether you’re using a smartphone or a basic phone, there are several quick ways to find your MTN number.

    1. Use the MTN USSD Code

The fastest and easiest way to check your MTN number is by dialling a short USSD code. Simply open your phone’s dial pad and enter:

    *123*888#

Then press the call button. Within a few seconds, your MTN number will appear on the screen. You can write it down or take a screenshot for future reference. This method works on all types of phones and does not require mobile data.

    1. Use the MTN App

If you have a smartphone, you can check your number through the MTN app.
Download and install the MTN App SA from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store, then log in with your SIM details. Once logged in, your number will be displayed on the home screen along with your account balance and data usage.

This method is especially useful if you regularly use MTN services and want to monitor your airtime, bundles, or payment options.

    1. Call or Text a Friend

Another simple way to find your number is to call or send an SMS to a friend or family member nearby. Your number will appear on their phone’s screen, allowing you to note it down. However, this option only works if you have airtime or an active SMS bundle.

    1. Check SIM Card Packaging

If your SIM card is new, your number may still be printed on the starter pack or SIM card holder that came with it. Check the plastic card or the paper slip where your SIM was attached. This is a reliable option if you haven’t yet inserted the SIM into your phone.

    1. Contact MTN Customer Care

If none of the above methods work, you can contact MTN customer support for help. Dial 135 from your MTN line to reach the MTN call centre, then follow the voice prompts to speak to an agent. The representative can verify your details and provide your number. You can also visit the nearest MTN service centre with your ID for assistance.

    1. Check Your Phone Settings (Smartphones Only)

On most Android phones, you can view your MTN number through the settings menu. Go to:
Settings → About phone → Status → SIM status → My phone number.

    On iPhones, go to:
Settings → Phone → My Number.

Your MTN number should appear there if it’s saved on your SIM card. However, if it doesn’t show, the SIM might not have been updated properly, so using the USSD method is more reliable.
