At least 3.4 million candidates will sit for transitional examinations in Secondary and Junior Secondary schools across the country this year.
Education Cabinet Secretary Migos Ogamba, speaking in Nyamira Friday urged for vigilance during the examinations saying there is no room for any monkey business in terms of cheating.
“We have already communicated this that there shall be no room for malpractices and that we are still committed to a 100 percent transition,” Ogamba said.
He was accompanied by Defence Cabinet Secretary Soypan Tuya during the ground breaking event for Nyamira University at Kiabonyoru in North Mugirango.
Ogamba affirmed good preparation by teachers in Senior Schools for student transitioning from JSS adding that proper induction has already been done.
“We have also done assessments of the infrastructure and I want to tell Kenyans that no pain has been spared to ensure everything is going according to script,” he told journalists during a press conference.
On the construction of the university, Nyamira Deputy Governor James Gesami said they would provide an addition 17 acres of land for the future expanse of Nyamira university.
He hailed the move to establish the university in the area as a “historic milestone” for the county, which has long relied on neighboring Kisii University for higher education.
“For years, our young people have had to travel far to pursue degree courses. The new university will not only bring education closer to our people but also attract investment and create jobs,” Gesami said.
Kisii Vice Chancellor Prof Nathan Ogechi who would shepherd the new constituent university growth asked the locals to construct hostels to accommodate students who would be studying at the campus.
At least 1000 students would be sent to the university during the first admission.
Other leaders expressed optimism that the university will transform the county into an academic hub.
“This is a dream come true for our youth. We thank the national government for recognizing Nyamira’s potential,” said North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko.
Kitutu Chache North MP Japhet Nyakundi who was present asked those who would be in charge to give priority to locals during recruitment of non teaching staff.
He praised Ruto’s development agenda in the country terming it solid and built on the earnest effort to improve the livelihoods.
He urged the area residents to re-elect Ruto in 2027.
West Mugirango MP Steve Mogaka termed the university the greatest achievement for the region since independence.
He praised the President for his foresightedness in shepherding this country on the right direction.
Woman Representative Jerusha Mogaka said proposed Nyamira University heralds special opportunity for the region to tap its potential.
Her Kisii counterpart Donya Toto vouched second term for President William Ruto.
She asked local leaders to christen the university in Ruto Constituent University.
