Bobby Darin was born Walden Robert Cassotto on May 14, 1936, in New York City.
He was raised by his mother, Nina, although he was told throughout much of his childhood that Nina was his sister and that his grandmother, Polly, was his mother. He did not learn the full truth about his parentage until he was an adult.
Darin attended the prestigious Bronx High School of Science. He later enrolled at Hunter College but left after two semesters to pursue a career in entertainment.
