A suspected thief was shot and killed in a failed robbery in the Mirema area, Kasarani, Nairobi.

Police said his accomplice managed to escape in the Saturday incident along Mirema Road.

A woman had screamed for help after her mobile phone was snatched by suspects who were riding on a motorcycle.

This attracted the attention of police officers who were on patrol. The team responded and shot dead the rider as his pillion passenger escaped unhurt.

The said stolen mobile phone was recovered from the slain man, police said.

The motorcycle was taken to the Kasarani police station as the body was moved to the mortuary pending an identification and autopsy, police said.

Cases of mobile phone snatching have been on the rise in the city amid police efforts to address them. Some of the stolen mobile phones are sold to unsuspecting buyers who at times arrested for handling stolen property or robbery.

Police say some are refurbished and sold to neighbouring countries. A team of detectives is handling the cases and say they have nabbed and arraigned some of the suspects behind the trend.

And as part of efforts to tame the crime, more personnel have been deployed to various places in the city.

Meanwhile, police in Githurai 44, Nairobi are investigating the death of a woman on the roadside after she collapsed there.

The woman had a fresh wound on her leg and was walking on Kiangiciri road when she collapsed and died on Saturday. An ambulance was called to the scene and attendants confirmed she had died. It is not clear where she sustained the injury. The body was moved to the mortuary pending identification and autopsy.

And police in Ngerenya, Kilifi County are investigating the death of a woman whose skeleton was found in a thicket. The family said the woman had gone missing since May 23, 2025.

The cause of the death was not immediately established. The dress that the woman wore helped the family to identify her.

The skeleton was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy, police said.
