Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Thursday announced the creation of three new subregions in Nairobi and posted County Commissioners to manage them.

He explained that during the recently concluded Jukwaa La Usalama public forums, he promised to restructure and reinvigorate the National Administration to better serve the people of Kenya.

“We are committed to bringing services closer to wananchi through deliberate decentralization and efficiency enhancement,” he said.

He announced the creation of Nairobi North, Nairobi East, and Nairobi West Service Delivery Coordination Units has been made necessary by the high population of the capital city, now estimated at more than five million.

Officials serving in the rank of County Commissioner were promoted and appointed to administer the
    subregions.

Rose Wanjiru Chege was named the County Commissioner for Nairobi West Sub Region while Patrick Simiyu Werre will be in charge of Nairobi East Sub Region and Simon Odhiambo Osumba will administer Nairobi North Sub Region.

The three will report to the Regional Commissioner, Nairobi Region, Murkomen said.

In the changes, Nairobi North Sub Region will have Roysambu, Starehe, Ruaraka, Kasarani, Kamukunji and Mathare to be headquartered at Starehe while Nairobi West Sub Region will have Langata, Kibra, Dagoretti North, Dagoretti South and Westlands to be headquartered at Langata.

Nairobi East Sub Region will have Embakasi East, Embakasi West, Embakasi North, Embakasi South, Embakasi Central, Njiru and Makadara to be headquartered at Embakasi Central.

Murkomen made the changes in a gazette notice dated November 12, 2025.

He also promoted and posted Joseph Mwangi Wanuri to Tana River, Linda Odhiambo Okola (Taita Taveta), David Ntawuasa Saruni (West Pokot), Michael Yator (Kajiado), Jeremia Mwai Gicheru (Kericho) and Peter Mwangi Maina (Vihiga).

He said the changes would take effect with immediate effect.

“We have also transferred serving County Commissioners to various new stations taking into consideration their strengths and experiences as we address the various security and service delivery concerns raised by wananchi
during Jukwaa La Usalama public forums.”

Regional Commissioners usually chair security meetings and other national administration issues.

The former provincial administration was restructured to accommodate the new commissioners.

This followed the ushering of the 2010 constitution.

The RCs replaced Provincial Commissioners in the new dispensation.
