Former Nairobi City Council legal director Mary Ngechi Ngethe, who has been linked to several court cases including the Sh283 million cemetery land scandal, has been struck off the Roll of Advocates.

The Chief Registrar of the Judiciary, Winfridah B. Mokaya, announced the decision in a gazette notice dated November 14, 2025.

According to the notice, the Disciplinary Tribunal removed Ngethe from the Roll of Advocates on October 21, 2025, under section 69(2) of the Advocates Act. The decision was issued in Disciplinary Tribunal Cause No. DTC/83/2021.

Ngethe has been involved in both criminal and civil cases over the years, many connected to the cemetery land fraud involving the Nairobi City Council. She was among several individuals accused of participating in the Sh283 million scam.

In 2020, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) filed charges against her and other suspects. The following year, she was convicted of knowingly providing a misleading document, though she later appealed the ruling.

Court records also show her involvement in earlier legal matters, including a 2012 civil application seeking to stop criminal proceedings and a 2020 corruption case where she was listed as a defendant.
