The chairman of the Anti-Counterfeit Authority (ACA), Josphat Gichunge Kabeabea was Monday charged with soliciting and receiving a Sh5 million bribe from a businessman.

Kabeabea appeared before the Milimani Anti-Corruption court where Prosecution, led by Wesley Nyamache, told Senior Principal Magistrate Celesa Okore that the ACA board chair unlawfully sought a financial advantage of Sh5 million from businessman Du Zhisheng.

The alleged bribe was reportedly demanded in exchange for favourable treatment in a case involving suspected counterfeit motor vehicle spare parts.

Prosecution further told court the offence occurred on November 11, 2025, and the prosecution approved the charges after reviewing the evidence gathered by investigators.

Kabeabea denied the charges and was released on a Sh2 million bond or an alternative cash bail of Sh1 million.

As part of the bail terms, the court ordered him to deposit his passport . Further, he was barred from contacting or interfering with prosecution witnesses, to ensure the integrity of the case as it proceeds.

The matter is set for mention on December 8, 2025 when the court will give further directions.

He had been arrested last week following a search in his office and houses pending the prosecution.
