    Early Life

    Holly Rene Holm was born on October 17, 1981, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She is the youngest of three children born to Tammy, a massage therapist, and Roger, a preacher. Growing up, Holm was highly athletic and participated in soccer, gymnastics, swimming, and diving.

    She graduated from Manzano High School in 2000 and later attended the University of New Mexico, where she studied for one year before fully committing to combat sports.

    Kickboxing

    Holm began her fighting career in amateur kickboxing, quickly rising through the ranks. In 2001, she won the USA National Amateur Championship in the International Rules Adult Women’s Welterweight Division, setting the stage for her transition to professional boxing.

    Professional Boxing Career

    Holly Holm made her professional boxing debut in 2002 and went on to build one of the most dominant careers in women’s boxing history. She compiled a remarkable 33-2-3 record and captured multiple world titles across three weight divisions.

    Throughout her boxing career, Holm defeated elite opponents and successfully defended her championships numerous times. She was named Ring Magazine’s Female Fighter of the Year in both 2005 and 2006. Her achievements later earned her induction into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

    Holm retired from professional boxing in 2013, ending her career as one of the most decorated female boxers of all time.

    MMA and UFC Career

    While still boxing, Holm began training in mixed martial arts, making her MMA debut in 2011. She went undefeated in her early MMA career and captured the inaugural Legacy FC Women’s Bantamweight Championship in 2014.

    Later that year, Holm signed with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). She made her UFC debut in 2015, quickly establishing herself as a top contender.

    Her career-defining moment came at UFC 193, when she defeated undefeated champion Ronda Rousey via head-kick knockout to win the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Title. With that victory, Holm became the first athlete in history to win world championships in both boxing and MMA.

    Although she lost the title in her first defense to Miesha Tate, Holm remained a top contender for years, competing for championships in three different UFC weight classes and earning multiple Performance of the Night bonuses.

    Later Career

    Between 2018 and 2023, Holm continued competing at a high level, earning wins over fighters such as Megan Anderson, Irene Aldana, Yana Kunitskaya, and Julianna Peña. In 2023, her bout against Mayra Bueno Silva was later ruled a no-contest following a failed drug test by Silva.

    In 2024, Holly Holm officially announced her retirement from MMA, closing the book on a legendary career that spanned more than two decades across multiple combat sports.

    Film and Media Appearances

    In 2016, Holm appeared in the action film “Fight Valley,” alongside fellow MMA stars Miesha Tate and Cris Cyborg, further expanding her profile beyond professional fighting.

    Holly Holm married Jeff Kirkpatrick in 2012. The couple separated in 2019. She is known for maintaining a private personal life and continues to be respected for her professionalism and discipline both inside and outside the cage.
