The government is set to establish security training grounds in the Kerio Valley counties of Samburu, Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, and West Pokot.

According to Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, these training grounds will complement existing facilities at Kiganjo and Embakasi police training colleges, providing practical lessons to both recruits and serving officers under an enhanced curriculum.

Murkomen also disclosed plans to upgrade the Kiganjo Police Training Campus into a fully-fledged campus of the National Police University, offering continuous training courses for police officers.

Additional campuses will be established in other regions to meet the growing demand for on-the-job police training.

“These grounds will also help the regions to grow in many ways. It is a plus for the regions,” he said.

On security, the CS stated that the government aims to collect up to 3,000 illegal firearms in the Kerio Valley in the coming year to consolidate peace.

He further highlighted initiatives to improve livelihoods in the region, including irrigation projects, housing, and market development to enhance food security and living conditions.

The CS made the remarks in Karara, Cherangany, Trans Nzoia, during the funeral of the late Mzee Michael Kigen Komen, father of ICT PS John Tanui.
