Born James Richard Garoppolo on November 2, 1991, in Arlington Heights, Illinois, Jimmy is the third of four sons born to Denise and Tony Garoppolo Sr. He attended Rolling Meadows High School, where he played quarterback and linebacker while also excelling as a baseball pitcher.
