Detectives are investigating an incident where a 65-year-old man was found murdered in a church compound in Kathwana, Tharaka Nithi County.

The deceased was identified as Julius Mugao. His body was found lying in a pool of blood in the church compound by congregants of the ACK Church Kathwana on January 11.

Police said the deceased was strangled.

The motive of the incident was not immediately known, police said as they moved the body to the mortuary pending investigations and autopsy.

Elsewhere in Serem, Vihiga County, one Derrick Andambi was killed in an attack. Police said the assailants used a jembe to cut both his hands in the wrist. The motive was not established and the body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy, police said.

Police said they were on Monday pursuing the said assailants. This was after the family of the deceased said they knew them.

Elsewhere in the Shanzu area, Mombasa, a gang raided a play station shop and stole five tv sets and five pairs of the play station. A licensed firearm holder had to shoot to the air to scare the gang who escaped with the gadgets.

Police said they are investigating the incident.

In Kegonga, Migori County, a gang shot to the air in a robbery at a home. The gang grabbed Sh155,000 from the home before escaping.

Police said the gang also stole mobile phones from the home in the Sunday drama. A spent cartridge of 7.62 mm was recovered at the scene, police said adding they were pursuing the gang.

Robbery cases have been on the rise in the area amid outcry from the locals. The locals claim some of the attacks are politically motivated and aimed at intimidating them.

The locals have been protesting and demanding police action to address the menace that has left some of them dead and injured. Police said they are pursuing all reported cases with hopes to arrest the suspects behind the same.
