    Early Life

Mavado was born David Constantine Brooks in November 1981 in Kingston, Jamaica. Raised in a challenging inner-city environment, he was introduced to music at a young age by his grandmother, who took him to church to sing. It was there that his vocal ability and passion for performance first became evident. Throughout his childhood, Mavado continued singing publicly, gradually developing the confidence and stage presence that would later define his career.

    Mentorship

At the age of 15, Mavado caught the attention of dancehall legend Bounty Killer, who became his mentor. Under Bounty Killer’s guidance, Mavado refined his lyrical style and gained access to professional studios and producers. This mentorship proved pivotal, helping him transition from local performances to national recognition.

    Studio Albums

Mavado released his debut studio album, Gangsta for Life: The Symphony of David Brooks, in 2007 at the age of 26. The album was a major success in Jamaica and among the diaspora, cementing his place as one of dancehall’s leading voices.
