Peace and stability remain the Government’s top priority as the country heads into the electioneering period, Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has said.

Murkomen sent a stern warning to political leaders orchestrating violence to destabilise the nation.

Speaking at the Africa Inland Church Kipkelion Town Church in Kericho County during a Sunday service, Murkomen reiterated that the Government will not tolerate any attempts to incite chaos for political gain.

“We are heading into the election period, and our security agencies are alert and fully prepared to ensure that Kenyans continue to live in peace,” he said.

He warned that anyone who incites Kenyans against one another will face firm action according to the law.

“The only security challenge we are now facing is politicians without an agenda who ferry goons and teargas to rallies to cause chaos. We will deal with them firmly,” he cautioned.

Murkomen added that police were pursuing the individual who allegedly threw teargas during a rally in Kakamega attended by a section of opposition leaders.

“The IG has a responsibility to ensure that whoever threw teargas yesterday, in an attempt to blame the police, is traced, arrested, and dealt with decisively,” he said.

Maintaining that the Government has curbed most security challenges, the CS urged politicians to uphold peace during the campaign period.

“I want to urge politicians to conduct their rallies peacefully, and we will provide adequate security,” he said.

“We have dealt with most of the security challenges. Kenya is one of the safest countries on the continent,” he added.

He said all security and administrative officials are under firm instructions to ensure that the country is free from alcohol and drug abuse.

Present were Kericho Governor Dr. Erick Mutai, Deputy Governor Eng. Fredrick Kirui, Kipkelion West MP Hillary Kosgei, Kericho County Speaker Dr. Patrick Mutai, and MCAs among other leaders.

Murkomen has come under intense pressure and criticism over the recent chaos seen as sponsored a targeting the opposition. This is because there has been near nil action from the government even with clear evidence in place.
