Detectives in Makueni County launched investigations after a school watchman was found murdered within a school compound.

Police said the incident occurred on March 13, 2026 at about 10:25 am at Kaumoni HGM Primary School.

The matter was reported by the school’s headteacher who said the body of the watchman was discovered early in the morning at around 6:15 am by the school matron.

The deceased, identified as Mathew Kioko Katumob, 52, was found lying dead on the school playing field a few metres from the headteacher’s office.

Police visited the scene and established that both the headteacher’s and deputy headteacher’s offices had been broken into and ransacked.

However, preliminary investigations revealed that nothing had been stolen from the offices.

Police said the watchman had sustained two deep cuts on the forehead and another on the head, indicating he may have been attacked with a sharp object.

The body was moved to Makueni County Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Detectives have launched investigations to establish the motive behind the killing and to identify the suspects involved.

Meanwhile, police in Nairobi are investigating an incident of malicious damage to property at the Milimani Law Courts.

The incident occurred on March 13, 2026 at about 1:10 pm at Gate 2 of the court premises.

Police said a group of Rastafarian protesters allegedly damaged one of the walk-through security scanning machines after they were denied entry into the court compound.

The group had reportedly been turned away by security officers after they became rowdy while carrying Rastafarian paraphernalia.

Officers from Capitol Hill Police Station were notified and responded to the scene. However, the suspected individuals had already fled by the time police arrived.

Crime scene personnel from the Nairobi Area Scenes of Crime unit later processed the scene and documented the damage.

No injuries were reported during the incident, and investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those involved.
