Matiang’i slams ‘historic wastage’ at State House, promises 80% budget cut

Jubilee Presidential Flagbearer Fred Matiang’i sharply criticized what he termed as “historic wastage of public resources,” singling out the growing budget for State House Nairobi as a symbol of misplaced government priorities.

Speaking during a church event in Murang’a County, Matiang’i questioned why the presidency requires significantly more funding than critical national institutions such as the Kenya National Trading Corporation. He argued that the country cannot justify expanding State House allocations while key public sectors struggle.

“Why should State House need more money than KNTRC? No children are being born there,” he said, alleging that the inflated budget is often used for political patronage and bribery.

The former Interior Cabinet Secretary pledged that, if elected, he would cut the State House budget by up to 80 percent and redirect resources to priority sectors. He also criticized the current administration for what he described as confusion and lack of direction in the education sector, saying Kenyans receive “a new excuse every day” instead of clear policy solutions.

Matiang’i maintained that leadership should be defined by work and accountability, stating that many politicians have stayed in office for years but cannot demonstrate meaningful achievements. He emphasized that Kenya’s progress has always come through hard work and collective effort, adding that he is ready to work with leaders across political divides for the sake of the country.

    Context:
The remarks were made as Matiang’i attended a church service at Weithaga ACK Church in Murang’a County during the laying of the foundation stone for a new conference centre. He was received by Timothy Gichere of the Diocese of Mount Kenya Central.
