A tragic electrocution incident claimed the lives of a mother and her two-year-old child in Kilifi County.

Police said the incident occurred on March 20, 2026, at around 8:00 a.m. in Maweni Village within Malindi Sub-County.
A witness said a Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) electricity pole fell onto a rental house during heavy rains.

Tragically, a two-year-old girl accidentally touched a metallic door of the house that had become electrified and was fatally shocked. Her mother aged 43, was also electrocuted when she attempted to rescue her child.

The two were rushed to Malindi Sub-County Hospital but were pronounced dead upon arrival.

Their bodies have since been moved to the facility’s mortuary, where they are awaiting postmortem examination.

The incident highlights the dangers posed by fallen power lines, especially during rainy weather, as authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collapse of the electricity pole.
And a 33-year-old man has died after falling from a coconut tree while tapping palm wine in Kilifi County.

Police said the incident occurred on March 20, 2026, at around 9:00 a.m. in Timboni Village, Kuruwitu Sub-location within Kilifi South Sub-County.

The case was reported by the area Assistant Chief, Jackson Yawa, prompting police officers and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to visit the scene, located approximately 9 kilometres northeast of the station.

Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased, identified as Rama Mukutano, was tapping palm wine from a coconut tree on a farm belonging to a local resident when he accidentally slipped and fell due to heavy rains.

He sustained injuries to his hands and other parts of the body during the fall. Members of the public rushed him to Vipingo Health Centre, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body was later moved to Kilifi County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it awaits postmortem examination.

Authorities have termed the incident as accidental, while urging caution during risky activities, especially under adverse weather conditions.
