A 49-year-old man who had been missing for more than a week has been found dead in a bushy area in Keremeke Village, Kambadi Location, Chuka North Sub-County, Tharaka Nithi County.
The remains of Alfred Mwenda Paston were discovered on Monday, September 28, 2026, after he was reported missing on September 17.
Police officers visited the scene following the discovery.
They found the man’s remains, including his skull and other body parts, with some portions separated and believed to have been scavenged by wild dogs that were still in the vicinity.
His mother was able to identify him through his clothes, including a trouser, shirt and pair of gumboots found at the scene.
Investigators processed and documented the scene and collected relevant exhibits for further examination.
The recovered remains were taken to the Chuka Referral Hospital Mortuary, where they are being preserved pending a post-mortem examination to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.
Elsewhere, police in Migori County arrested a 32-year-old man after the body of his wife was allegedly discovered buried in a shallow grave near their home in Suna East Sub-County.
The body of Everline Odongo, a middle-aged woman, was discovered on Monday, September 28, 2026, at Kanyamdura Village in Suna Ngege Location after neighbours noticed freshly dug soil behind a toilet at the residence of her husband.
The discovery raised suspicion among villagers after Everline had reportedly not been seen since Friday, September 25, when she was allegedly seen quarrelling with her husband at about 4:30pm.
Members of the public reportedly removed the freshly dug soil before police arrived and recovered the body, which had been wrapped in a sack and buried in a shallow grave.
Police searched the house and reportedly found bloodstains on a wall and underneath a bed, as investigations into the circumstances of the woman’s death continued.
The deceased had a deep injury on her right cheek, which police suspect may have been inflicted with a sharp object.
Investigators established that the couple had reportedly been living together as husband and wife for about one month.
The body was moved to the Migori County Referral Hospital Mortuary pending preservation and post-mortem examination.
The man was arrested and placed in police custody as investigations continue.
