Safaricom-sponsored golfer Samuel Chege Njoroge emerged victorious in the second leg of the PGK Equator Tour Second Edition held at Thika Sports Club after four days of intense competition featuring some of Kenya’s top professional golfers.

Njoroge delivered a consistent and composed performance throughout the tournament, finishing top of the leaderboard with a score of 278, ten under par, to secure the title and further cement his growing reputation on the local professional golf circuit.

Veteran golfer Dismas Indiza finished second with 279 points, while Michael Karanga claimed third place after carding 283 points.

Speaking after the win, Njoroge expressed excitement over the victory, noting that the competition remained tough throughout the tournament.

“I am very excited to win this tournament. The competition was tough, and every round was challenging, so I am happy with how I played throughout the week. Winning at Thika Sports Club is special to me, and this victory gives me confidence going into the next legs of the tour,” he said.

The latest triumph adds to an impressive run for the Safaricom-backed golfer, who also won his maiden PGK Equator Tour title during the first edition of the series at Diamonds Leisure Golf Club.

Other golfers who finished in the top ten included Kennedy Abuto with 288 points, Greg Snow and Edwin Mudanyi tied on 289, John Lejirma with 290 points, CJ Wangai with 294, Mike Kisia on 295 points, and Mohit Mediratta closing the top ten with 296 points.

This year’s PGK Equator Tour will be played across 11 courses around the country as players compete for honours in one of Kenya’s premier professional golf series, with the tour also serving as a pathway toward qualification for the Magical Kenya Open and the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

Attention now shifts to Limuru Country Club, which will host the third leg of the tour.

The PGK Equator Tour continues to receive support from leading corporates including Safaricom, NCBA, Betika, Kenya Airways, Visa, Britam and Johnnie Walker, whose backing continues to strengthen professional golf in Kenya and create more opportunities for local talent.
