    Early Life

Wendy Wilson was born on October 16, 1969, in Los Angeles, California.

She is the second daughter of Brian Wilson, the legendary songwriter and co-founder of the Beach Boys, and his first wife, Marilyn Rovell.

Wendy and her older sister, Carnie, grew up in a musical family. Their father was one of the central creative forces behind the Beach Boys, while their mother was also connected to the music industry.

Wendy and Carnie have Jewish ancestry through their mother.

Growing up around musicians had a major influence on the sisters. They developed an interest in singing and vocal harmonies from an early age, eventually leading to the formation of Wilson Phillips.

    Wilson Phillips

Wendy Wilson, Carnie Wilson and Chynna Phillips had known one another while growing up because of their famous musical families.

Chynna is the daughter of John and Michelle Phillips of the Mamas & the Papas. Like Wendy and Carnie, she grew up surrounded by music.

The three began singing together and developing their harmonies before officially forming Wilson Phillips in 1989.

The group signed a recording deal with SBK Records and released its self-titled debut album in 1990.

The album became a major commercial success, reaching No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and remaining in the top 10 for an entire year.

It produced five singles, including the No. 1 hits “Hold On,” “Release Me” and “You’re in Love.”

The success earned Wilson Phillips five Grammy Award nominations, including Album of the Year and Song of the Year for “Hold On.”

The group’s success also established Wendy as a prominent singer in her own right.

    Shadows and Light

Wilson Phillips followed its successful debut with Shadows and Light in 1992.

The album performed well commercially, reaching No. 4 on the Billboard 200. However, it did not produce singles that matched the enormous success of the group’s debut.

Following the album’s release, Chynna Phillips left the group.

Her departure effectively brought the original lineup’s run to an end.

Wendy and Carnie continued working together, however, and remained active in music.

    Wilson Phillips Reunion

The Wilson sisters eventually reunited with Chynna Phillips to revive Wilson Phillips.

In 2003, the trio began recording California, its first studio album in more than a decade.

Released in 2004, California reached No. 35 on the Billboard 200.

The group later released the Christmas album Christmas in Harmony in 2010.

In 2012, Wilson Phillips released Dedicated, an album featuring covers of songs associated with the Beach Boys and the Mamas & the Papas.

The group continued making television and live appearances. In 2016, Wendy, Carnie and Chynna reunited to perform on the ABC program Greatest Hits.

    Other Recordings and Performances

After Wilson Phillips initially separated in the early 1990s, Wendy and Carnie continued their musical partnership.

The sisters released the Christmas album Hey Santa! in 1993. The project included Christmas standards and an original title track but did not achieve the commercial success of Wilson Phillips’ debut.

In 1997, they released a self-titled album under the name the Wilsons.

Wendy and Carnie also remained connected to their father’s musical legacy.

The sisters performed with members of the extended Beach Boys family and later participated in projects involving the families and friends of Beach Boys members.

In 2012, Wendy and Carnie joined other relatives of Beach Boys members to form the vocal group California Saga. The group performed during the intermission of a Hollywood Bowl concert celebrating the Beach Boys’ 50th anniversary.

    Reality Television

Wendy Wilson has also appeared on reality television.

In 2008, she appeared with Carnie and her niece Lola Bonfiglio on an episode of Supernanny.

The Wilson sisters later appeared with their mother and husbands on a special edition of The Newlywed Game.

In 2012, Wendy and Carnie starred in the reality television series Wilson Phillips: Still Holding On.

The program followed the sisters and their families while also documenting their lives and music careers.

    Personal Life

Wendy Wilson married sound engineer and record producer Daniel Knutson in 2002.

The couple have four sons: Leo, Beau, Will and Jesse. Will and Jesse are twins.

Wilson has generally maintained a relatively private personal life while continuing to perform and work on music-related projects.
