    Suspected phone snatcher shot dead during police pursuit in Githurai

    A suspected phone snatcher was fatally injured during a pursuit after a group of four young men allegedly robbed a passenger in a moving vehicle along a highway in Githurai, Nairobi.

    The incident was reported at Githurai 44 Police Post at about 10:20 pm on Sunday, August 9, 2026.

    According to police, witnesses saw the four men snatch a phone from a moving vehicle before members of the public challenged them to stop.

    The suspects reportedly fled in different directions, prompting a pursuit. One of the suspects was fatally injured during the chase. Police officers visited and processed the scene.

    A knife and three mobile phones were recovered from the deceased. One of the phones was identified as an Itel, while the makes of the other two had not been established.

    Members of the public identified the deceased as Eric Muiruri.

    His body was moved to the City Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination as investigations into the incident continue.

    And a 29-year-old man was stabbed to death along Musa Gitau Road in Kikuyu, Kiambu County, in the early hours of Monday.

    The deceased, identified as Anthony Mugumo Ndungu, was reportedly attacked and stabbed by a man known in the area.

    The deceased was rushed to PCEA Kikuyu Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Police rushed to the scene and found the suspect being subjected to mob justice.

    Police intervened and rescued Wangari before arresting him. A knife believed to have been used in the attack was recovered at the scene and preserved as an exhibit.

    The suspect was escorted to Karai Police Station, where he was booked pending further investigations into the killing.
