Career
Nygren joined IFK Göteborg’s youth setup in 2013 at age 12.
He signed his first professional contract with the club in 2018 and made his senior debut that year, including appearances in the Allsvenskan where he scored goals as a teenager.
In 2019, at 17, he transferred to Belgian side Genk for a significant fee.
Limited first-team opportunities there led to a loan spell at Dutch club Heerenveen from 2020 to 2022, during which he gained regular playing time.
In early 2022 he moved permanently to Danish Superliga club FC Nordsjælland, where he developed into a consistent contributor over several seasons, scoring regularly and helping the team in domestic and European competitions.
In June 2025 he signed for Celtic on a multi-year deal.
He made an immediate impact in the Scottish Premiership, contributing goals and assists.
Internationally, Nygren progressed through Sweden’s youth teams (U17, U19 and U21) before earning senior caps for Sweden starting in 2025, including scoring on the international stage.
Accolades
With Genk, Nygren was part of the squad that won the Belgian Super Cup. At Celtic he has contributed to Scottish Premiership success.
On the individual front, he earned selection in the Danish Superliga Team of the Year for the 2024–25 season and the PFA Scotland Team of the Year (Premiership) for 2025-26.
He has also received recognition as a key performer during his time at Celtic, including club player-of-the-season type honours in some reports following strong goal and assist returns.
