Yasin Abbas Ayari is a Swedish professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion and the Sweden national team.

Born on 6 October 2003 in Solna, Sweden, he is known for his technical ability, vision, work rate, and capacity to contribute goals and assists from central midfield.

He was born to a Tunisian father, Azzouz, and a Moroccan mother, Amina Abbas, giving him eligibility to represent Sweden, Tunisia, or Morocco.

He progressed through Sweden’s youth teams and committed to the country of his birth, making his senior international debut in a friendly against Finland in January 2023.

    Siblings

Yasin grew up in Solna with siblings, including a younger brother who has followed a similar path into professional football.

His most prominent sibling is Taha Ayari, born on 10 May 2005, also in Solna.

Taha is a winger or attacking midfielder who, like Yasin, started at local club Råsunda IS before joining AIK’s academy.

He made his senior debut for AIK in 2022, appearing as a substitute for his older brother in an Allsvenskan match against GIF Sundsvall and later contributing in league and cup competitions.

Taha has represented Sweden at various youth levels and remains with AIK, where he has signed contract extensions and continued his development despite setbacks such as a cruciate ligament injury.

    Career

Ayari began playing organised football around the age of six with Råsunda IS before moving to AIK’s youth setup as an eight-year-old.

He progressed through the academy ranks and made his senior Allsvenskan debut for AIK as a 17-year-old in December 2020 against Elfsborg.

Over the following seasons he established himself in the first team, scoring his first competitive goals and featuring in European competition, including a notable contribution in UEFA Conference League qualifying.

In January 2023 he transferred to Brighton & Hove Albion.

Early opportunities were limited, and he spent the 2023–24 season on loan in the Championship, first with Coventry City and then Blackburn Rovers, experiences he has described as challenging but formative.

Upon returning, he became a regular under head coach Fabian Hürzeler, featuring frequently in the Premier League and contributing goals and consistent performances in midfield.

Internationally he has earned senior caps for Sweden, scored important goals including in World Cup qualifying and Nations League matches, and was selected for the 2026 FIFA World Cup squad.

In Sweden’s opening match of the tournament he scored twice against Tunisia, the country of his father’s birth, helping secure a 5–1 victory in an emotionally charged game.

    Accolades

Ayari’s individual recognition includes being named Swedish Midfielder of the Year for 2025, an award reflecting his breakthrough as a regular in both the Premier League and the national team.

His two goals on World Cup debut against Tunisia in 2026 stood out for their quality and the personal context surrounding the match, drawing widespread attention.
