Hugo Bueno López is a Spanish professional footballer who plays primarily as a left-back or left wing-back.

Born on 18 September 2002 in Vigo, Galicia, he stands approximately 1.80 metres tall and is left-footed.

He currently features for Wolverhampton Wanderers in the EFL Championship, wearing the number 3 shirt, after progressing through the club’s ranks following his arrival from Spanish youth football.

Known for his attacking contributions from the flank, energy, and ability to deliver crosses while remaining solid defensively, Bueno has established himself as a reliable squad player in English football.

    Siblings

Hugo has one sibling, an identical twin brother named Guillermo Bueno López.

The brothers were born minutes apart on the same day in Vigo and share a remarkably similar physical appearance that has often made them difficult to tell apart, even for those close to them.

Both are left-footed defenders who primarily operate as left-backs or wing-backs and developed their early football skills together in local Galician clubs.

They played alongside each other at clubs including Gondomar and CD Areosa until their mid-teens.

Their paths diverged when Hugo moved to England at age 16, while Guille remained longer in Spain before joining Deportivo La Coruña’s youth setup and later moving to Borussia Dortmund’s system in Germany.

Guille has since played for Dortmund’s reserves, spent time on loan at SV Darmstadt 98, and currently plays for Real Valladolid in Spain’s Segunda División.

    Career

Bueno began his youth career in Galicia with clubs such as Gondomar CF and ED Val Miñor before joining CD Areosa.

In 2019, at the age of 16, he was signed by Wolverhampton Wanderers after being spotted by club scouts.

He initially joined as a scholar and converted from a more attacking role into a left-sided defender or wing-back.

He progressed through the under-18 and under-23 sides, contributing goals and assists in youth competitions and earning promotions within the academy.

Bueno made his senior Premier League debut as a late substitute in a 1–0 home win against Nottingham Forest on 15 October 2022.

He quickly became a regular in the first team during the 2022–23 season, making 21 league appearances.

He continued featuring prominently the following campaign while scoring his first senior goal in an FA Cup quarter-final against Coventry City in March 2024.

In August 2024, he joined Feyenoord on a season-long loan.

During his time in the Netherlands, he played regularly in the Eredivisie and made nine appearances in the UEFA Champions League, gaining valuable European experience.

Returning to Wolves for the 2025–26 season, he remained a key part of the side as the club competed in the Premier League before its later move to the Championship.

Internationally, he has represented Spain at under-18 and under-21 levels and has also appeared for the Galicia representative team.

    Accolades

While major senior team trophies have been limited, Bueno has collected individual recognition for his performances.

At Wolves, he won the club’s Player of the Month award for October 2022 shortly after breaking into the first team.

He later earned Goal of the Season honours for a strike against Arsenal, along with another Player of the Month award in April during a subsequent campaign.

During his loan at Feyenoord, he was named Voetbal International’s Player of the Month for October 2024.

He has also featured in youth-level successes with Wolves’ development sides and holds caps for Spain’s youth teams as well as a senior appearance for Galicia.

One club honour associated with his Feyenoord spell is the Johan Cruijff Schaal, the Dutch Super Cup, from the 2024–25 period.
