Santiago Ignacio Bueno Sciutto is a Uruguayan professional footballer born on 9 November 1998 in Montevideo, Uruguay.
He currently features for English club Wolverhampton Wanderers in the EFL Championship and represents the Uruguay national team.
Known for his solid defensive presence, aerial ability, and composure on the ball, Bueno has built a career spanning youth football in Uruguay and senior football in Spain and England.
He comes from a football-oriented family and holds dual Uruguayan and Italian nationality.
Siblings
Santiago has four siblings, one of whom is professional footballer Gastón Bueno.
Gastón, born around 1984 and roughly 13 to 14 years older than Santiago, has also played as a centre-back, primarily for Uruguayan clubs such as Racing Club de Montevideo, Central Español, Danubio, and Montevideo Wanderers.
Santiago has described Gastón as an important example and mentor in his career.
He observed his older brother’s professional habits, including his approach to diet, rest, and preparation, from a young age.
In addition to his siblings, Santiago is the cousin of former Uruguayan youth international Gonzalo Bueno and the nephew of coach Gustavo Bueno.

Career
Bueno began his youth career at Peñarol in Montevideo, joining the club around the age of 10 in 2009.
He progressed through the ranks and was promoted to the first-team squad in early 2016, although his senior appearances remained limited.
In January 2017, he moved to Europe after signing for Barcelona.
He featured for the club’s youth and reserve sides before spending time on loan at Peralada, which was linked with Girona, between 2017 and 2019.
The spell provided him with valuable senior experience and saw him score his first professional goals.
In 2019, Bueno joined Girona permanently.
He became a regular over the following seasons in the Spanish second tier, helping the club reach the promotion play-offs.
Girona eventually secured promotion to La Liga at the end of the 2021–22 campaign.
In the 2022–23 top-flight season, Bueno established himself as a reliable centre-back and contributed to Girona’s solid mid-table finish.
On 31 August 2023, he transferred to Wolverhampton Wanderers on a multi-year contract.
At Wolves, he has competed in both the Premier League and later the Championship, gradually increasing his involvement while adapting to English football.
Internationally, Bueno represented Uruguay at under-17, under-20, and under-23 levels. He made his senior debut on 24 March 2023 in a friendly against Japan.
He has earned multiple senior caps since then and was included in Uruguay’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Accolades
Bueno’s most prominent international honour came at youth level when he helped Uruguay win the 2017 South American Under-20 Championship in Ecuador.
He also participated in the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
At club level, his main achievement has been helping Girona secure promotion to La Liga via the play-offs in 2022.
